WJC Networking Group WJC is now part of SYNGROW, an association of networking groups from six nearby synagogues. Our goal is to leverage our membership's experience, knowledge and strengths to help those in our synagogues looking for a new job, a new career, or growing a new, small business, through education and networking.. Our programs are open to all and will rotate among our member synagogues programsPlease note: Because of the success of UJA's Connect to Care program and our desire not to overlap with them, WJC's Networking Group programs will be devoted to people and ideas on which we can provide a unique perspective. Tueday, May 11 at 7:30pm: SYNGROW program at Larchment Temple on Career Second Acts Listent to a panel moderated by Lisa Belkin of the NYTimes on following a passion to a new career. Businesses in almost every industry are experiencing unprecedented challenges. Some WJC members have lost their jobs and many others may be at risk, creating significant levels of financial and emotional stress. To help provide guidance, information, and support, WJC, Brotherhood, and Sisterhood have launched the WJC Networking Group. Programs will include regular discussion forums, networking workshops, career panels, and other events. All of our events will be open to the entire WJC community. Thurday, April 8 at 8pm on Home Office Networking 101. NOTE CHANGE IN DATE. Our own Larry Thaler will discuss setting up an effective and secure home network for small business. Thursday, March 18 at 8pm on Effective Networking David Volkman, a financial planner and business strategist will discuss effective networking techniques for developing both job and business oppotunities. Thursday, December 17 at 8pm: Make Your Money Buy More These tough economic times have affected virtually everybody, whether your raise, bonus or commimssions have decreased, you are out of work altogether or on a fixed income. We will have an open discussion of waysy to make our precious dollars stretch more in these tough times. We will read about cost saving measures and exchange our own ideas. Plus, we we will try to turn this situation into a positive. Thursday, December 3 at 8pm: Do you Believe: Alternative Career Paths to Your Future Join us for a candid discussion for those not succeeding at securing or advancing in a job in their industry. You already know how to use Linked In, Twitter, Facebook and how to network. Adrienne Pincus and Rob Weiss will discuss how you can find the alternative path to your futre. Thursday, November 5 at 8pm: Networking Gone Regional Meet other Jewish professionals from the Soundview area. Following evening services at 7:30pm. A networking event and get-together with the Networking Groups of Larchmont Temple and Beth El of New Rochelle. Thursday, October 1 at 8pm: How to Shmooze Like a Mensch What networking is all about. How to further ourselves. We will review the messages of our programs over the last few months, share some readings about networking at all levels, and talk about what's on ourminds. Networking skills are for everyone. Please join us. The program is free and open to all. Wednesday, September 9 at 8pm: Branding Yourself. If You're an Expert, Shouldn't Everybody Know? Learn how to communicate your message to the people you must reach. Learn solid tips on communicating who you are and what you do. Thursday, August 20 at 8pm - How to Develop Your Elevator Speech What is it? Why it’s important to your career! So, who’s better than you to describe with passion, precision and persuasiveness what you do? A great elevator speech makes a lasting first impression, showcases your professionalism and allows you to position yourself. To network successfully, you need an elevator speech! This program is open to all, and is free of charge. Thursday, July 23 at 8pm - Starting and Growing Your Business Please join us for a workshop focused on the legal, financial and marketing issues involved in starting your own business. Our experts will offer essential information for small business owners or anyone even considering starting a business. Thursday, May 21 at 8pm - Meet the Recruiters Featuring Two Professional Recruiters: Ada Alpert, President, Alpert Executive Search and Peter Goldfeder, PeterSan Group Get tips from these experts on the latest hiring trends in the marketing, advertising, and legal areas. Learn how to get the most benefit with tips on resume writing, interviews, etc. And, network with other local professionals. Thursday, May 7 at 8pm - "Unleash the Full Potential of LinkedIn" Learn about how to make maximum use of LinkedIn, the professional networking web site, from an expert. If you've joined the WJC LinkedIn network and have no idea what to do next, or have reservations about signing up, this is one evening not to miss. Thursday, April 23 at 8pm - “First Steps” Join the WJC Networking Group for a discussion-based gathering which will hopefully evolve into a regularly scheduled forum.
