DESCRIPTION:\n\nIt struck us\, in learning that our local streets (Palmer\,
  De Lancey\, etc.) were named for slaveholders\, that real human beings la
 bored and contributed to our community\, and those enslaved had names and 
 faces and stories...\n\nHow is it that we did not know?\n\nAnd\, how do we
  as a Jewish community fit into this history?  Starting with this entree 
 to the past and future programs which will continue to explore Racial Just
 ice  in our current day\, WJC hopes to build greater awareness regarding 
 these issues.  On Sunday\, October 24 at 10:00 am we invite Ned Benton an
 d John Pruitts\, the founders of REALM (Recognizing Enslaved Africans of L
 archmont Mamaroneck) to speak to us. They will provide an opportunity to l
 earn about the neglected history of Slavery which existed right here in Ma
 maroneck.\n\nAs Jews\, we are a people whose own history makes us who we a
 re\, and we value its importance.  It is our obligation to rectify an egr
 egious omission of history endured by the enslaved people who lived here. 
  They may well have walked by the very place where our synagogue sits tod
