DESCRIPTION:WJC Writing Workshop: November 2019\n\nThe Places We Come From\
 , The Stories We Tell&nbsp\;\nHow do you respond to the question\, “wher
 e do you come from?”&nbsp\; Do you name an actual place?&nbsp\; A room? 
 A house or apartment\, street\, or neighborhood\, town or country?&nbsp\; 
 &nbsp\;Family\, religion\, race or gender\, class or politics?&nbsp\; Or l
 anguage or languages? What are the stories we live by\, often without know
 ing it?&nbsp\; What value does history serve in our stories?&nbsp\; Or mem
 ory\, culture\, genetics\, rituals or customs?&nbsp\; Our values and belie
 fs?&nbsp\; Our sense of where we live—or belong—as Jews?\nWe’ll expl
 ore these questions as they shape the stories we tell (or want to tell) ab
 out our own lives.&nbsp\; We’ll consider the ways stories take form in v
 arious genres and media\, in writing\, in fiction\, non-fiction\, poetry\;
  in film\, art\, the news\, history\, and science. &nbsp\;And how\, as wri
 ters\, we draw from actual events\, images\, memories\, literature\, lette
 rs\, music\, history\, genealogy\, research\, and artifacts (what anthropo
 logists call “objects of ethnography”)\, and from our own imagination.
