Final Rosh Hashanah Logistics

Dear WJC Family:

After six months of preparation, we are excited to greet all of you, remotely or in person, for High Holiday services. Though many in our community were hard-hit by the storm, our synagogue building and outdoor tents weathered the storms with only minimal damage. Happily, the forecast is for better weather over the Rosh Hashanah holidays. We hope as many of you as feel comfortable will join us in person, and others on live stream.

This email will cover a few last-minute instructions regarding High Holiday services.

Although we will have ample security personnel, due to Covid, we will not have our usual complement of ushers. We therefore must ask all of you to avoid congregating in the hallways and other areas of the building. Space yourselves from others while in line for restrooms. Please keep your masks on at all times while in the building or in or near the tents. Be mindful of the sensitivities of others.

While we are delighted to have your children and grandchildren with us, we ask that families who are bringing children to Shul please monitor their behavior, whether in the building or elsewhere on synagogue property. We need your help to maintain decorum and control so please help us by keeping an eye on your children including when they are outside.

Due to the tents we have very limited parking available this year. A number of parking passes have already been distributed. If you need a parking pass, please email David at: david@wjcenter.org. We encourage everyone to park either at the High School lot or in the Town of Mamaroneck lot. The police have been instructed to not give out parking tickets on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

As you know, we are oversubscribed for the outdoor services. If you would like to overhear these services but do not have seats, we invite you to bring folding chairs and set them on the front lawn outside the tent (that is, the grassy area between Palmer Avenue and the front of the synagogue). As the tent has no walls, the sound system should enable you to hear the services from nearby. Please do not set up chairs in parking areas or on sidewalks that might impede traffic. If you wish to participate in this fashion we would appreciate your keeping your mask on in deference to others in your vicinity.

Despite all of the preparation we have gone through, we may still encounter unexpected challenges. We ask for your indulgence and understanding.

For those of you in our community who suffered from the storm, please let us know if you need help. We are here for you.

May this be a time of healing, comfort and coming together for all of us.

We wish you all a Shana Tova Umetuka and look forward to davening with you on the High Holidays.

Seth
