Support the most vulnerable members of our society

There are certain messages the Bible gets across unequivocally. There’s a reason tending to the widow, the orphan, and the foreign national appears 36 times. When the most vulnerable in our society cry out to us, quite literally, our tradition requires a response. We are the inheritors of a vast and powerful prophetic tradition. From Isaiah to Jeremiah and Hosea to Ezekiel, our religion is one that tells us to stand up when there are those being wronged. Although there are no more Jeremiahs or Isaiahs, we are all vested with this power and ability. As the Rabbis are wont to say, even if the Jewish people are no longer prophets, they are the sons and daughters of prophets. Let us take up that banner and respond to those most in need right now at our southern border. Hizku v’imtzu: Be strong and courageous.
RAICES is the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas. For years, RAICES has been working with some of the most vulnerable members of our society to ensure they receive advocacy and fair legal representation. They have two key goals at this time:
  1. Directly fund the bond necessary to get parents out of detention and reunited with their children while awaiting court proceedings
  2. Ensure legal representation for EVERY child in Texas’ immigration courts (last year, 76% of kids did not have representation)
Please consider donating to RAICES as one way that we can show our support.
Warmly,
 Rabbi Adir Yolkut
