About Shlicha Shachar Liran-Hanan

Shachar Liran-Hanan is the new JAFI (Jewish Agency for Israel) Senior Shlicha (emissary) to Westchester. Just before coming to Westchester, Shachar served as the Director of International Business Development at Shekulo Tov, the leading vocational rehabilitation service provider in Israel, building an international network of cross sectorial partners, promoting global inclusion while maximizing their organizational social impact and developing new business models. Her journey into the Jewish world had started right after she finished her military duty. She started volunteering for the Jewish agency, first at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, and later as a “Shlicha” for the Jewish community in Durban, South Africa. This road led her to join StandWithUs, an international Israel education organization, and leading the StandWithUs fellowship program in Israel, a public diplomacy leadership program for students all across Israel.

In 2015, post operation Protective Edge in Gaza, Shachar was appointed as the CEO of My Truth, a grassroots, non-profit organization comprised of IDF reserve soldiers who seek to share the moral dilemmas Israeli soldiers face in their one of a kind battle field, sharing their personal experiences and presenting the ethical challenges IDF soldiers are facing worldwide- on college campuses, parliaments, mainstream media, social media and more.

Shachar is still an active officer in the IDF reserves, training soldiers and teaching them on the geo-political background of their combat missions.
Shachar is a graduate of the Excel program MBA in social leadership, a joint program of Ben-Gurion University and the Mandel Foundation. Shachar earned a B.A degree with a double major in Psychology and Education, also from Ben-Gurion University.

Shachar is married to Elroi, whom she met at Camp Ramah 12 years ago, and they are proud parents to Kerem (3), Lotem (1) and Mentch the dog (7).
