Shalom WJC Family,
Just a quick note this week to remind you that we are celebrating “Security Shabbat” on Saturday morning. The need is unfortunate, but we are so grateful to all of our security personnel, local police officers, and CSS volunteers. To celebrate them and express our gratitude we are inviting them to have lunch with us (on-duty officers can drop in to pick up food) and towards the end of services, Mark Berger, who chairs our Security Committee, will deliver remarks of gratitude. Attendees of Simple & Soulful with Cantor Goldberg and Rabbi Cantor Shoshi Levin Goldberg will be back in the sanctuary in time to hear Mark’s talk. We hope you will join us and thank you to all of you who made contributions to support the effort. After the Kiddish lunch, at 1pm, join us for a “Farewell Torah Study with Rabbi Dalton.” This is one of a series of events to say goodbye to our beloved assistant rabbi. Join Rabbi Dalton for an engaging and thought-provoking Torah study session.
Of course, before that on Friday evening we have a whole night of programming with Pre-School Shabbat at 5:30, Shabbat Dinner at 6, Traditional and Rhythm & Ruach services at 7. Then at 8pm join us for a very special presentation, “Cancer and the Jewish Community” with special presenters and WJC members Dr. Amir Steinberg and Michelle Zimmerman. Michelle is the founder of Previvor Edge, a company that provides specialized programs that identify cancer risk, build personalized prevention plans, and puts them into action. Dr. Amir Steinberg is the director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the Westchester Medical Center. The talk will cover understanding cancer risk in the Jewish community, especially for Ashkenazi Jews at increased risk for various cancers, what evidence-based prevention and early detection look like, how individuals can advocate for themselves and their loved ones, and more. We hope you will join us for this serious, but important talk.
Finally, on Sunday at 10am you are invited to join us on the Chapel Patio as the Zoland Family dedicates a brand new Ambulance with American Friends of Magen David Adam. After we dedicate the vehicle and all of our Religious School students have a chance to look inside, it will head to Israel to save lives. We are honored to host the ambulance, the ceremony, and the Zoland family – a big Yashar Koach to our president Yale and Wendy Zoland and their extended family, on this incredible mitzvah.
Happy Yom Yerushalayim,
RJA
