Repairing the World with SOJAC: How You Can Help

The notion of Tikkun Olam, fixing a broken world, is one that certainly resonates with us as Jews.

Our community has been devastated by Hurricane Ida and the needs of our neighbors are dire. The Coalition for Community has been making sure these needs are met with cleanup, housing, and food. The problems created by the flood will be with us for a long time.

The most pressing need right now is for $25 or $50 gift cards to CVS, Stop and Shop, Amex, or Visa. Starting immediately, bring or send the cards to WJC. Also, a volunteer will be collecting these cards at the Nechama Carlebach concert on Sunday evening, Sept 12. These cards will be accepted throughout the month of September.

SOJAC and World Jewry are continuing our High Holiday collections. Starting on Yom Kippur, bins will be available for the month of September. Please “Bring Your Breakfast” and generously donate boxes of cereal and shelf-stable milk to help fight against food insecurity spreading through our community.

New TRAVEL SIZED toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, combs, deodorant, lotion, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are needed for immigrant children temporarily separated from their parents. The children are being housed at Children’s Village Unidos por un Sueno (United for a Dream) in Dobbs Ferry. As we spend time and celebrate with our families, please remember those that can’t be together.

Please bring your gift cards, food, or toiletry donations to WJC any time during September. Bins will be located inside the coatroom and outside the main office.
