Yossi Klein Halevi is an award-winning journalist and prolific author. Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, he immigrated to Israel in 1982. This year’s Fall Adult Education discussion is based on Halevi’s lyrical and evocative book, Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor. (You can purchase the book on Amazon.com here.)
Through a series of letters, Halevi explains what motivated him to move to Israel to participate in the renewal of a Jewish homeland and help ensure that it succeeds as a morally responsible, democratic state in the Middle East. In this provocative discussion, Halevi will use history and personal experience as he unravels the irreconcilable narratives which have consumed him as a Jew living in Israel.
His letters speak not only to his anonymous Palestinian neighbor but to concerned global citizens everywhere. As American Jews, Halevi will help us promote confident Zionism while understanding the painful choices confronting Israelis and Palestinians that will ultimately determine the fate of the region.
