We are pleased to announce that we will be honoring ALL of our amazing volunteers on Simchat Torah! We hope all of our volunteers and members will join us at a special BBQ Kiddish lunch in their honor after services on Simchat Torah morning (Sunday, October 8th).
We are also thrilled to announce that on Simchat Torah morning, WJC is proud to honor Cheryl Natbony and Jerry Fortinsky, who accept with profound gratitude on behalf of all the dedicated Morning and Evening “Minyanaires” who show up day in and day out.
Jerry will be honored as our Hattan Torah (the groom of Torah) and Cheryl as our Kallat Bereshit (the bride of Bereshit). On Simchat Torah we finish reading the Torah and immediately start again from the beginning. The Hattan Torah and Kallat Bereshit are honored with the last aliyah in the Torah reading cycle and the first in the next cycle respectively. The honors are traditionally reserved for people who go above and beyond to share Torah with the congregation.
As we turn the Torah scroll once again from the end to the beginning and call out Hazak, Hazak, v’Nithazek (May we go from strength to strength) we proclaim, “Hazak, Hazak, vNithazek,” May we too go from strength to strength.
