It’s a Havdalah Dance Party

BY LINDA ALPERT KARELL

Last month, our first ever Havdalah Dance Party at WJC was hosted by our dance instructor/choreographer, Shmulik Gov Ari. It was a great success! The event drew dancers from our own area as well as Manhattan, Queens, and Connecticut.

After about an hour of warm-up dancing, we celebrated Havdalah with music and song, led by our member Linda Alpert Karell on guitar, as well as the talented Itamar Gov Ari (Shmulik’s son) on keyboards. Everyone was singing along and swaying to the music—the warmth and ruach made all of us feel like one big happy family.

After the Havdalah celebration, we returned to dance for another two hours of new and old favorites. We’re planning our next Havdalah Dance Party Saturday, March 9 at 7:30pm. Let’s dance the night away as we mark the transition from Shabbat to a new week! The evening includes light refreshments, and is $15 per person (children and teenagers free of charge).

Don’t forget, the Israeli dance class is open to all on a drop-in basis, and happens most Monday nights at WJC starting at 7:30pm. The fee is only $10 per member and teens are free.
