The Koslowe Gallery is pleased to announce WJC’s first Virtual Art Opening: “Amy Reichert: Reimagining Jewish Spaces.” A Chicago-based architect and designer of limited-edition Judaica, Amy Reichert has a point of view that comes from years of international travel and observation of spiritual spaces. How can we renew the places where we worship to reflect our values and prayers and help us reach an enlightened state of mind? Through a renewal of approach to ritual objects and worship environments, Reichert balances her deeply Jewish education with her sense of award-winning contemporary design. Thinking like an architect and designing with her spirit, Reichert incorporates the sensibility plus the materials and colors of Torah teachings to create original works of art: Judaica objects (Mezzuzot, seder plates, yads, etc.), synagogue spaces (Park Avenue Synagogue, NYC; Beth Emet, Evanston, IL), and ceremonial objects (ner tamids, chapel arks, bimah designs), etc. Her interest in sustainability and in breathing new life into existing works of art offers an adaptive-reuse approach to much of her work.
Reichert received both her BA and MArch from Yale. She has exhibited around the world and teaches at the School of Art Institute in Chicago.
Please join us for a Zoom virtual gallery talk during Sukkot, on Wednesday, October 7, at 7:45pm, where she will focus on her Sukkah designs and the spiritual mindset she employs when designing them. Reichert will be with us live and will offer a Q & A afterward. Her talk will kick off our fall exhibition, which will showcase a range of her designs.
