Shabbat Shalom ~ Miketz

Shalom WJC Family,

Just a quick note today to wish you a Happy Hanukkah and a Shabbat Shalom. I know that a lot of people have Star Wars on their minds this Hanukkah, so click here to enjoy this new Star Wars/Hanukkah send-up from Six13, a favorite Jewish a cappella group in the Arnowitz household.

This Shabbat is a super-celebratory one as it is Shabbat, Hanukkah and Rosh Hodesh Tevet (the start of the new Hebrew month). That means that we will not only sing the Hallel songs of praise and thanks, but we also read from three sifrei Torah, a rare occasion outside of the fall holiday of Simchat Torah. I hope you will join us for this celebration and a discussion of Miketz (the Joseph story) and Hanukkah entitled, “A Brother or a Stranger,” addressing the lines being drawn so thickly between communities and individuals in our culture today, the drive for everyone to be culturally “the same,” and how Judaism might help us better understand our role in this cultural moment.

Next week there will be no individualized message or video from me in the weekly Shabbat email, so let me wish you a very healthy and happy 2020 full of blessings, love, and success.

See you in shul,
