WJC Student Joins PJ Our Way Design Team

BY ALEZA KULP, EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR & PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Mazel Tov to Danielle Kravetz, a 6th-grade student in our Religious School, for being chosen for the 2019-2020 PJ Our Way National Design Team. Each year PJ Our Way members (ages 8 through 11) are eligible to apply to be a part of the National Design Team. Danielle was asked to share a bit about herself, what she loves about PJ Our Way and what she looks forward to as part of the new design team.

What is your favorite subject at school?
My favorite subjects are art and music.

Describe your favorite PJ Our Way book.
My favorite is “12 Before 13.” It outlines the drama of middle school—and life! I liked the idea of Ari going to a Jewish camp and having the time of her life. I can definitely relate since I go to Camp Young Judea Sprout Lake.

Describe the application process.
For the past two years, I have been reading PJ Our Way. This Fall, my mom received an email inviting kids to join the PJ Our Way National Design and Content Team. This was attractive to me because I love to write, make coding projects, and make videos. Being on the team is going to allow me to do all of those activities while I meet new kids from all over the country.

To apply, I answered questions about myself, my interests, and my skills. I also made a coding project about one of my favorite PJ Our Way books. Coding is when you use a computer language to make something happen on the computer screen. Code can be in the form of blocks or text. For instance, if you create a character and you want him to move forward 10 steps, you then write a coding block that says MOVE 10 STEPS.

What excites you the most about the Design Team?
I look forward to making video reviews of books as well as creating coding projects that relate to Judaism.
